Hi there, if you are reading, welcome back to review of technology. This week, we are going to talk about an audiobook website – Lit2Go.

Printed books are one of the most amazing inventions or say the outcome of technology in the world. There are numerous benefits one can get from reading books, which is redundant for me to list here. But one true thing is that not everyone finds pleasure in reading. If you are one of those, try listening to books on Lit2Go.

Lit2Go classifies their books by authors, genres, alphabetical orders, collections, and readability, which is straightforward and easy to use, and the clear layout is definitely a plus.

(layout with clarity & simplicity)

Readability on Lit2Go is determined by Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level but it is only a roughly estimated level, and I strongly suggest that users make their own determination by listening and reading part of the books.

Another useful features of Lit2Go in terms of language learning is that everything including audio files, passages, and student activities are all downloadable.

(all files are downloadable)

A reminder I would give is that teachers should carefully examine the student activity available for each book based on the needs of individual classes. The already designed activity may not necessarily correspond to the level or goal of one's classes.

Continuing with book listening, I do think it is a way to facilitate a language class. First of all, children easily get tired of or lose patience of reading books, especially for a long time (for example reading for the whole 40-min reading class). Whether to let students just listen or to follow the narratives while reading could provide motivation for beginning-level learners, compared with conventional reading using merely visual input.

Additionally, the authentic (native and attending for the meaning) audio input is helpful for developing learners' listening skills, not to mention the great alternatives for learners with reading or vision disabilities. But, again, materials have to be chosen deliberately to meet the needs of learners. Fortunately, the wide-ranging genres—from fairy tale, to poetry, to satire, just to name a few—on Lit2Go should help educators find suitable books easily.

(various genres, satire for example)

Personally, I use audiobooks for pleasure not for academic purposes. Once in a while, I would like to listen to something other than news or music when I am making my breakfast. However, when I intend to use audiobooks in class for teaching purpose, I think there ought to be a comprehensive consideration of levels, needs, goals, and consequences. It is like a two-edged sword that could be very successful tool in a language class, but could also cause major distraction if not carefully designed.

Overall, Lit2Go is still a great source that provides systematically arranged audio materials. How to use it is totally at every teacher's or learner's discretion. After all, one man's meat could be another man's poison; everyone may use it for different purposes and everyone has different preference of receiving information.
